biography

IOM is the solo project of Iker Ormazabal, a musician and sound designer born in Vitoria, Spain, in 1981. Iker began his musical journey in the late 90s, and toured as a keyboard and sample player with various pop and rock bands throughout the early 2000s. After relocating to Barcelona in 2004, he became an active part of the local experimental music scene, both as a solo performer and as a live musician with butoh dance performers.

Based in London since 2013, IOM’s music is characterized by an unwavering commitment to experimentation. His work has been released on labels such as Brachliegen Tapes, Industrial Coast, Cruel Nature, Industrial Complexx and Hedonic Reversal. IOM has performed at renowned venues such as Elektrowerkz and Iklectik, alongside appearances across France and Spain, Iker is also a curator for the Until We Catch Fire event series in London.

Iker also works as an Audio-Visual designer. In 2023 he presented a research paper at the International Conference on Audio Education curated by the Audio Engineering Society (AES). Last year he won a SCHOMS grant to present an AV design project at ETC (Educational Technology Collaborative) in Los Angeles. In 2026 Routledge will publish a chapter on the use of distortion in synthesis and sampling workflows that he presented at the Innovation in Music conference in Oslo.
